We're back in the US of A!!

Mackinac Island
Well, guess I'm now a bit behind the 8-ball as we are finished with Canada and now moving south on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. But, I will get back to the Trent Severn along the way.
Arriving back in the good ol' US of A was a feeling of pure elation. You just can't imagine!! but I'll try and give you a sense of how good it felt to cross into US waters at Drummond Island just a few days ago as I bring this blog up to date. For now, the above picture of the island was taken from its highest point overlooking the Upper Penisula of Michigan. Mackina"w" Island is actually in Lake Huron just immediately north of the Straits of Mackinac. While it has quite a history, today it is a tourist trap. Beautiful, yes, but you have to get out of the town and onto the trail that leads all around the island with branches going up the south side of the hills. Once out of town, the mongrel hordes have dissipated, the smell of horse manure covering the streets becomes non-existant, and
most notably, the fudge, T-shirt and ice cream stores are no where to be found. Did you know there are more fudge shops on the island than there are anywhere in the US?
With that brief introduction re: our return to the US, I promise to spend every minute that I can bringing this blog up to our current stop...wherever that may be.
Now, if the winds would only quit blowing at Mach 1, we could move a bit more south before we cross over to the WI side of the Lake.
